(이들은 각각 "케이"와 "미이"라고 불린다) 학교친구로부터 시작된 둘은 야마하 보컬 스쿨에 들어가면서 듀엣을 결성하고 본격적인 아이돌계 진출로의 레슨을 받았다. 그리고 1975년 11월 후지TV의 스타탄생 결승까지 출전하여 빅터레코드 와 T&C뮤직 에 스카웃되었다. 고향인 시즈오까에서 동경으로 상경. 그 때부터 이름을 "핑크레이디" 로 정하고, 76년 8월 25일 펫파게이부의 발표로 데뷰했다 그와 동시에 76년 한해의 모든 신인상을 휩쓸며 인기를 모았고 일본가요 대상과 일본레코드상을 수상, 같은해 11월 S.O.S 를 발매하여 대히트를 쳤다. 79년엔 음반시장을 세계로 넓혔다. 미국과 영국을 왕복하며 활동하였고, 6월 미국전역에 레코드판 pink lady 를 발매하면서 kiss in the dark 가 빌보드차트 63위에 오르게 된다 1달 뒤 63위에서 37위로 상승, 곧이어 2번째 싱글 Dancing in the holls of love 를 발매했다. 하지만 이렇게 활발한 대외활동에도 불구하고 핑크 레이디의 인기는 80년대가 다가오면서 점점 식어들기만 했고, 81년 3월 31일핑크레이디 사요나라 콘서트 를 마지막으로 해체되었다.
